Where the bicycle is called "Leeze", castles, farms and picturesque villages attract countless cycle tourists. The Münsterland is also worth a trip for racing cyclists - especially if you can turn your training into a race.

If you want to know what cycling means in Münsterland, you have to go to Lohmann. "Bei Lohmann" is a household name in the local cycling scene. It's a small pub on the western outskirts of Münster, where up to 80 racing cyclists meet every Sunday morning for a group ride. Shortly before ten o'clock, the crowd is waiting in front of the pub. There is laughter and banter, but only one person is taking things seriously: Dieter Fuchs, a wiry older man with a bold grey mane, stomps through the rows on his cycling shoes and eagerly notes down names on his piece of paper. Each participant is greeted with a light-hearted remark before Fuchs sends the group on its way with a loud "Off you go!

Past pastures, fields and barns, the route takes you into the western Münsterland towards the Baumberge. It rolls effortlessly in the wake of the field and there's plenty of room for a chat with the person next to you. His name is Rudi Wegmann, for example, and he is the father of Milram pro Fabian Wegmann.

You can find these routes in the PDF download below:

- TOUR 1: Direction Baumberge

Münsterland at racing speed: There may be more beautiful routes through the Baumberge, but this is the standard route of the cycle club.

- TOUR 2: Detour to the Teutoburg Forest

Flat becomes steep: the Teutoburg Forest is reached at Tecklenburg. Further climbs follow until Lengerich.
