Germany: Kaiserstuhl
Flat hills, famous vineyards and plenty of sunshine: nowhere in Germany does the cycling season last longer than in Tuniberg and Kaiserstuhl. And you can ride on Jan Ullrich's former training routes. A weekend trip to the adopted home of many professional cyclists... (Tour 6/2003)

Beautiful?" Markus Knapp asks incredulously: "The area is simply gorgeous!" And that's why every spring, when apple and cherry trees are already in bloom in Breisgau, the 43-year-old packs his racing bike into his car and drives from the still grey Düsseldorf to the green Tuniberg south-east of the Kaiserstuhl. The long weekend in Germany's warmest region has long been a tradition for the engineer and former amateur racing cyclist.

Professionals like Andreas Klöden also appreciate the mild climate. The Telekomprofi rider moved to Merdingen last year, and not just because he wanted to be close to his friend and former team-mate Jan Ullrich. Klöden changed his place of residence primarily because of the excellent training opportunities.
