South of Bad Tölz, some of the most beautiful routes in Upper Bavaria lead deep into the mountains. Some of them on roads that are closed to cars. (TOUR 7/2004)

From most places in Germany, the view of the horizon is at best a slightly undulating line. However, where the land barely extends any further south, vertical lines dominate the horizon: precipices, gorges, rocky peaks! A panorama that otherwise only opens up to cyclists after hours of cycling over mountain passes. But where the Bavarian bliss condenses into a postcard motif, the cycling effort is limited. The gradients in the Isarwinkel and Mangfallgebirge are rather moderate and the next major pass road is a long way away. From the ideally located starting point of Bad Tölz to the highest point of the tours, it is only a good 600 metres in altitude.
