Not in the mood for mountains? Then off to the Ammerland! But you can't just roll along there either. On the East Frisian peninsula, the wind determines where you go.

On the East Frisian peninsula, it is said that you can already see in the morning who is coming to visit in the evening. The area is as flat as a pancake, with the highest point rising less than 20 metres above the sea. Nevertheless, when the local cycling group from Rastede is out and about, someone always shouts: "Watch out, mountain classification!" And then it's uphill, pedalling up to the next motorway bridge. What did the former professional cyclist Rolf Aldag once say? "The natural enemies of cyclists are the mountains." Seen in this light, the Ammerland should be a cyclist's best friend. But there is another enemy lurking behind every pile of dung, especially on the detours to the nearby North Sea coast: the wind, or more precisely: the headwind. The region between the Jade Bay and the Dollart. Lush green pastures where black-and-white cows graze, forests, moors, and in between the parks and gardens around Westerstede and the Zwischenahner Meer. The routes lead past restored windmills, brick churches and thatched farm cottages. But it is above all the vastness that makes this landscape so attractive.
