Sandra Schuberth has already mapped out the rough route of the Germany Trail Gravel Edition. Now you come into play. Her bikepacking tour through Germany starts on 16 August. In search of the most attractive gravel paths and single trails, the route leads from the border triangle of Germany, France and Luxembourg to Munich. The starting shot is fired in Amnéville, France, where the fifth stage of the Tour de Femmes 2024 ends. From here, Sandra will ride a prologue to the border triangle. This is where the actual tour begins. And only locals know the best paths and trails. So join in and help Sandra plan the route!

This is the route

The rough route has been finalised and the daily stages should look something like this:

This is how you can submit route suggestions

Sandra needs you to help her find the most beautiful gravel tracks, forest paths, country lanes and single trails and make sure she doesn't miss any highlights. Join in and help Sandra plan her route. Plan your suggested route so that it can be ridden with a gravel bike and some luggage if possible. It can be steep, it can be bumpy - after all, some highlights can only be reached this way.

And now let's go!

1. plan your route

For your planning, use the DK tour portal or Outdooractive. Plan a route that you want to be part of the Deutschland-Trail Gravel-Edition. Save your planning in your profile.

How do you like this article?

2. make a tour out of your route

Planning is the basis for a tour and cannot be published. The next step is to turn your planning into a tour so that you can publish it. To do this, click on "Convert to tour" above your planning. As soon as you turn your planning into a tour, the original planning will be removed.

One advantage of these separate editing steps is that you have a clear overview of the current status of your tour, i.e. where you are in the editing process.

3. name and describe the tour

Fill in the title, short description and, if applicable, description before you save the tour. We'll explain how in a moment. Because if your route suggestion - whether a section or the entire stage - is named and described according to a certain pattern, you will make it easier for Sandra to keep track of which section it is.

The title should consist of "Deutschland-Trail route suggestion stage" + number of the stage + either "section" or "entire stage", depending on the stage

In the short description write the following:

  • From: Start location of your section
  • To: Destination of your section
  • Highlights: Highlight 1, possibly Highlight 2, possibly Highlight 3, ...

This is what it looks like in the DK tour portal or in Outdooractive:

4. publish tour

Have you filled in the title, short description and description if applicable? Perfect! Then you've already done most of the work. Move the slider under Status to Publish and save your tour.

5th joint tour with Sandra

Now there's just one step left: the tour has to go to Sandra. The DK tour portal and Outdooractive offer the "plan together" option for this. Once your tour has been saved, you can now navigate directly to the tour. Above the tour you will find a menu with various buttons. Click on the three dots to the right and a menu will open. Select "Plan together" here.

Now you need to enter a date and time - base the date on the previous one Route planning and then simply enter any time, perhaps your favourite time - it doesn't matter, the field must be filled in. Now click on "+ Add participant" and search for Sandra Schuberth. Click on the right Sandra Schuberth and continue by clicking on "Done".

No further details are required here, so you can click on save directly. As soon as you click, Sandra will receive an email with the tour invitation. The suggested route will then be included in the route planning for the Germany Trail Gravel Edition.

Of course, we cannot consider all suggestions, as there will certainly be several proposals for the same section. But

Ride along - this is how it works

Sandra Schuberth, sometimes an after-work ride, sometimes a training ride, sometimes an unsupported bikepacking challenge. The main thing is her and her gravel bike - away from the traffic. Seven Serpents, Badlands or Bright Midnight: she has finished challenging bikepacking races. Gravel and bikepacking are her favourite subjects, and her demands on equipment are high. What she rides, uses and recommends has to stand the test of time: not in marketing, but in real life.
