Workmanship and price set standards. The Vandeyk Purple Blast is almost too beautiful to ride.

In his day job, Arendt van Deyk is a manager at Mercedes Benz. After work, the Stuttgart native focusses on zero-emission vehicles. The approach of his brand, founded in 2010, is to create bicycles with the highest design standards. The Purple Blast, limited to 25 units, is a perfect example of this. The frame was welded by Franconian frame builder and former SRAM engineer Georg Blaschke. Not even a second glance reveals the attention to detail that has gone into it. The fact that the holes around the bottle cage threads are internally reinforced, for example, remains just as invisible as the ingenious routing of the Di2 cables. All the more striking is the purple paintwork, which is reminiscent of the models from aluminium pioneer Klein from the nineties. The fact that the cost of the paintwork exceeds that of the frame is not without irony. After all, the stainless steel frame would manage without paint. A contradiction that is not one for van Deyk, because he sees his bikes primarily as design objects. Nevertheless, for the sake of completeness: the technical values of the 7.3-kilo bike are remarkable for a steel racer and thanks to its high-end equipment, the rather tough Purple Blast is also a real sports machine.
