While most Italian frame manufacturers are now history, the friendly family-run company Tommasini from Grosseto is still making a good living from its steel frames. Asian customers in particular appreciate the timeless classics. But the company, founded in 1948 by the still active Irio Tommasini, also has a good reputation as a manufacturer of oversized frames. The Tecno model with its lovingly realised 80s look is one of the last representatives of traditional Italian steel frame construction. Artfully chiselled chrome sleeves, engravings on the fork crown and bottom bracket housing and a neatly executed airbrush paint job in waffle iron look make the hearts of traditionalists beat faster. We did not expect the classic, which is available as a frame and fork set for € 1,579, to win the technical evaluation of this comparison. This is mainly due to the steel fork, which combines two properties that carbon forks very rarely harmonise: extreme lateral stiffness and high suspension comfort. The frame is also surprisingly stable.
