Fighting cramp: Most athletes do not need tablets to compensate for magnesium losses when sweating. In some cases, however, supplements may be necessary, for example in the case of extremely high losses during a cycling marathon or if intestinal absorption is impaired, which can only be determined by a doctor.

Mineral tablets can then prevent the consequences of deficiencies: These can be tension, cramps or even cardiac arrhythmia. However, if you want to balance your mineral balance with tablets, you should take a closer look at the ingredients: British scientists have shown that the metabolism utilises the most magnesium when it is swallowed in the form of organic compounds, for example as citric acid salt (magnesium citrate). Inorganic compounds such as magnesium carbonate or magnesium oxide perform worse in comparison.
