Last weekend, Daniel Steinhauser from Bad Waldsee covered 962 kilometres virtually within 24 hours on the Zwift indoor cycling platform - a new Guinness World Record. The previous record was 952.12 kilometres, set by Canadian Ed Veal on 23 October 2019 at Splunk .conf19 in Las Vegas (USA).

Steinhauser reeled off his 962 Zwift kilometres in a gym in Bad Waldsee (Baden-Württemberg) on an Orbea Orca and an Elite Smarttrainer and was visibly relieved to have broken the record. "I could have chosen a world record that I would definitely break, but I didn't want to do that," Steinhauser told the SWR.
The extreme athlete's event also served a good cause. Anyone who wanted to could hire a spinning bike from the fitness studio on 12 and 13 October and accompany Steinhauser. The proceeds will benefit the SBBZ (Special Education and Counselling Centre for Blind and Visually Impaired Children and Young People of the St. Franziskus Foundation in Baindt). The event also featured a supporting programme with music and guests.
In addition to Steinhauser's world record, there have been several other outstanding records set this year. In September, for example, Lael Wilcox set a new world record for women for the fastest round-the-world bike ride and on Strava the Tracing the Olympic rings.
