No indoor training without a fan! The right dose of airflow is a must in order to quickly transport the athlete's waste heat away from the body. The Elite Aria Smart fan does this cleverly, as shown in the TOUR test.

The speed of the stylishly packaged radial fan can be controlled electronically via a wirelessly connected sensor - either via ANT+ or Bluetooth wireless protocol. The air flow can thus be linked to the heart rate, speed, wattage values or even a core temperature sensor. It is logical to link the fan to the heart rate or core temperature sensor, as these provide a smoothed and dampened representation of what is happening, which comes close to physiological requirements and ensures that the fan does not switch off immediately after the virtual mountain climb as soon as you start to descend. Alternatively, the Elite Aria Smart can also be operated manually in four stages.

Elite Aria Smart fan: fan outlet can be swivelled in ten stages

The airflow of the Aria is relatively strongly directed, similar to the forerunner, the Wahoo Headwind, which also has sensor control. Unlike the Headwind, however, the fan outlet of the Aria can be swivelled in ten stages. Activated carbon filters are also fitted on the sides to clean the air drawn in. This feature made no difference to us in the test. If indoor training takes place in a dusty environment, this could be a plus. The filters should be replaced after 500 operating hours, a pair costs 15 euros.

Role model Wahoo Headwind

The Aria is similar to the Wahoo Headwind in terms of fan power. On the Elite, we measured up to just under 50 km/h on the fan and up to 20 km/h on the handlebars. The volume of the Aria is also similar to the Headwind and is relatively quiet. The first manually selectable level is comparatively weak and very quiet. However, the overall range is practical.

Elites myETraining app is used to set up the sensors on the fan. A wind profile can also be assigned to the sensors; the control is correspondingly finer than in manual mode. If sensors are paired, they can also be selected directly on the fan. A standby function is also available, which activates the fan as soon as the paired sensor delivers values.

The price of the Elite Aria smart fan

The Elite fan is good, but at 289 euros it is also the most expensive fan, that we have tested so far.
