For some, a world championship in roller cycling may sound like a premature April Fool's joke. However, e-cycling is actually a highly professional sport under the auspices of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). It has now announced the date and some details for the 2025 World Championships in Saudi Arabia. On 15 November 2025, the Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi will host the most prestigious competition in e-sports cycling.
As in the previous year, this year's competition for the world championship title in e-cycling will be held in Abu Dhabi in late autumn. The choice of location is of course no coincidence. The e-cycling platform MyWhoosh, which is based in Abu Dhabi, is a partner of the World Championships. MyWhoosh is backed by investors from the United Arab Emirates, who want to make the digital platform the leading provider of e-sports cycling apps and can even offer their product free of charge. There is a thriving cycling community around Abu Dhabi. The Road Cycling World Championships will also be held there in 2028.
On 15 November, 20 women and men will compete in a live final in Abu Dhabi. Athletes from all over the world will have the chance to qualify for the live final in qualifying events and semi-finals. These include many top athletes, some of whom are already making a living from the relatively new sport of e-cycling.
