Answer from Dr Merkl:
As long as the infection is acute, you should not exercise under any circumstances. The aim of the "acute phase reaction" that occurs with every infection is to provide energy for the immune system and for tissue repair. This leads to fever and the breakdown of proteins from the skeleton and heart muscles, as well as an impairment of circulatory regulation. The consequence is a reduction in muscle strength and endurance performance, often over several weeks. Only when myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) can be ruled out should light training be resumed. There is a high risk of myocarditis when exercising during an infectious disease and, in the worst case, it can be fatal. However, the risks of training too early have nothing to do with taking antibiotics.
