Question from Norbert S. from Düren: I have problems in the crotch/testicle area - it feels like sandpaper is constantly rubbing against my skin. Even when I walk, I constantly feel a pinching sensation. All attempts to remedy this have so far been unsuccessful. Do you have any advice?
Dermatologist Peter Manstein: I suspect it is irritant eczema, i.e. caused by skin irritation, which is probably already somewhat chronic, i.e. permanent. However, crotch problems are very diverse and any well-intentioned advice is no substitute for a visit to the dermatologist if the symptoms have been present for a long time. Nevertheless, I can give you the following tips even without a precise diagnosis: Of course, the first thing you should do is check your seat height and angle on the bike and wear padded cycling shorts without underwear. Be sure to apply a buttock cream to the stressed areas, but first test it in the crook of your elbow for three days. What is tolerated there can usually also be used elsewhere without any problems. During breaks in training, a good moisturising cream with a cold black tea compress applied to the irritated areas for 20 minutes can soothe the skin.
