Just in time for the approaching gravel season, Rose presents a new off-road racing bike. With the new Rose Backroad, the Bocholt-based mail-order company is drawing on the marathon-compatible frame geometry and shape of its predecessor model, the Backroad 2018. However, at 1,040 grams (in frame size 51), the frame of the 2019 model is said to have become significantly lighter. A down tube protector is designed to keep coarse dirt off the frame. A longer wheelbase and wider tyres than on a conventional road racing bike as well as hydraulic flat-mount disc brakes as standard, 15 millimetres on the front wheel and 12 millimetres on the rear wheel, are intended to offer smooth and safe off-road riding.
The Rose RC-170 Flex carbon seatpost is designed to absorb additional shocks and bumps and thus contribute to increased comfort. Rose uses its own brand "R Thirty Disc" wheels, which are designed to combine low weight with great robustness. The Backroad is fitted with 38 millimetre wide G-ONE Allround Evo tyres from Schwalbe as standard. If required, the fork can be retrofitted with tyres up to 42 millimetres wide. Interesting for touring cyclists: the Backroad has mounts for mudguards, pannier rack and front light.
In addition to the four differently equipped gravel variants, the Backroad is also available as a cross bike - with an identical frame set, but with the 33 millimetre wide Schwalbe X-ONE Evo Bite studded tyres at the front and the Allround at the rear - as well as a touring bike variant without racing handlebars. The programme also includes a luxuriously equipped randonneur version with Ultegra groupset, mudguards, pannier rack and high-quality lighting system. All models are available in two colours: petrol black and sand black:
