Bikes instead of cars: JobRad and SC Freiburg are aiming for 90,000 fans on two wheels this season
With an expanded cycling campaign, JobRad and SC Freiburg aim to encourage even more fans to cycle. The target: 90,000 journeys to the stadium this season. In doing so, the campaign is setting an example for climate-friendly mobility far beyond Freiburg.

With a new participatory campaign, JobRad and SC Freiburg aim to encourage even more people to use bicycles in their everyday lives. Although the campaign takes place around the Bundesliga club’s home matches in Freiburg, the message behind it extends far beyond the stadium: cycling should become more visible as a climate-friendly alternative means of transport.

According to the partners, since the introduction of the so-called ‘cycle fan count’ in March 2023, more than 300,000 fans have cycled to SC Freiburg’s home matches. For every cycling fan, JobRad donates one euro to charitable organisations. The scheme has now achieved cult status and has also become a model for similar initiatives at other Bundesliga stadiums.

Surprise parcels for cyclists

For the current season, the organisers have now set themselves a new target: to reach a total of 90,000 journeys made by fans cycling to the stadium. To further boost participation, a surprise prize will be raffled off amongst cyclists on every home match day. These may include, amongst other things, vouchers for exclusive stadium tours. Should the 90,000-trip mark be reached, JobRad also plans to hold a prize draw for a high-quality bicycle amongst all SC fans.

“Lasting change is particularly successful when it’s enjoyable and fits easily into everyday life,” says Sandra Prediger, co-founder of JobRad. The campaign demonstrates how exercise, community and climate-friendly mobility can be combined.

The initiative has an influence that extends beyond the region. JobRad sees the bicycle as a key component of lower-emission transport and aims to encourage more people to make their everyday journeys on two wheels.
