The 32nd edition of the Ötzi will take place on Sunday, 26 August 2012. The route remains the same as in previous years: as in the last ten years, the race starts in Sölden. The route runs clockwise over the Kühtai, the Brenner, the Jaufenpass and then, almost at the end of the lap, the highlight: over the Timmelsjoch.
Last year's most prominent participant has already started preparing for the season: Jan Ullrich is currently in Sölden, skiing, conquering various peaks in the Ötztal Alps on touring skis and preparing for the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, which he also wants to take part in in 2012. Of course, he doesn't have to worry about his starting place.
Amateur athletes must register by the end of February to be able to compete in Sölden. Only registered participants can then be allocated a starting place in the draw on Tuesday, 6 March 2012. The organisers of the "Ötztaler" are once again expecting up to 15,000 cycling fans to register for a starting place this year. According to Ernst Lorenzi, there were already more than 1,000 registrations in the first two hours on 1 February.
