21 races from March to September, but no competition in Germany - that's the timetable for the "Gran Fondo World Series" organised by the cycling world governing body UCI.

20 races around the globe, 12 of them in Europe, and a grand finale in Varese - the UCI Gran Fondo World Series also has an international racing calendar in its second year of existence. The new racing year kicks off simultaneously in Cyprus and Indonesia. This will be followed by competitions in Australia, Japan, Mexico and Canada, which are likely to be completely new territory for most European amateur cyclists.

For German cyclists, however, the UCI Gran Fondo World Series race calendar is a disappointment: the series does not stop in Germany, Switzerland or Austria. The closest races will be held in Mondorf (Luxembourg), Holbaek (Denmark) and Trento (Italy). The format remains unchanged: The first quarter of finishers in each age group of each race will qualify for the World Championships in Varese, Italy (30 August - 2 September 2018).
