300 kilometres, two mountains and money for an ambulance for the Ukraine - These are the key points for Saturday, 19 April 2025, when the Two Peaks Frankfurt Fundraiser Brevet will be held over the Easter weekend to raise funds for the "Chainreaction Bike Convoy for Ukraine" project. The brevet starts in Frankfurt and follows historical traces of European history through the Vogelsberg and Rhön mountains. The idea is to show solidarity with Frankfurt's twin city of Lviv.
Two Peaks Frankfurt is an ACP-homologated brevet organised in cooperation with ARA Mittelhessen and ARA München / Oberbayern. As a Brevet Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRM), it follows the international rules of the Audax Club Parisien (ACP). It is not a race, but has a time limit of 20 hours. The idea for the ride came from the Brevet-Selbsthilfegruppe Rhein-Main.
Brevet is based on a campaign that we have already presented in TOUR: the Munich racing bike community wants to collect at least 186,000 euros by July to buy ten used ambulances for Ukraine under the motto Bikeconvoy. As of the end of February, a good 56,000 euros have already been collected. In July, the vehicles will be transported from Munich to Lviv as part of a 1200 kilometre long brevet and a long-distance ride.
The start is at the birthplace of German democracy, St Paul's Church. The route leads along a medieval trade route to Kyiv to what was once the westernmost point of the Warsaw Pact at "Point Alpha" near Geisa in Thuringia in the beautiful UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve. The route continues along a section of the Iron Curtain Trail and through the "Fulda Gap", where Nato anticipated the Warsaw Pact's armoured advance in the event of war. There are two small climbs on the route: the Hoherodskopf and the Wasserkuppe.
A used ambulance costs between 12,000 and 20,000 euros, depending on the year of manufacture and drive system. The vehicles are purchased together with the partner organisation Bamberg:UA. The vehicles and the medical equipment they contain are freshly TÜV-inspected. The vehicles are equipped with an evacuation stretcher, defibrillator, Infusomat, VAC pump and oxygen device. The ambulances are handed over by Bamberg:UA to the emergency services on site in Lviv in the west of Ukraine and then deployed in the east and south of Ukraine. On average, the deployment of one ambulance per day saves the lives of five injured people. Every ambulance makes a crucial difference. The ambulances are to be financed via a crowdfunding campaign.
