Doping control is not only a problem for dopers. Many competitive athletes have problems peeing because they are unable to urinate despite a considerable urge to do so. This phenomenon has now prompted scientists to investigate the causes in a study.

The Department of Sports Psychology at the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Potsdam has developed a questionnaire in cooperation with the University of Copenhagen that is intended to capture this problem more precisely. Competitive athletes are still being sought to take part in the survey. The survey is being carried out by Ms Katharina Strahler, a qualified psychologist.

In 2006, researchers at the University of Potsdam had already conducted a pilot study with doping control officers and found that 42 per cent of all doping controls were delayed due to the problem of "wanting to but not being able to".
