190 racing cyclists are taking on the challenge of the 18th edition of the Fichkona Cycle Marathon on 27 June. They all want to cover the 615 kilometres and 4197 metres in altitude from the Fichtelgebirge to the northernmost cape of the island of Rügen in less than 24 hours on their racing bikes.

As always, it is a colourful field of newcomers and specialists who will start at ten o'clock on 27 June at the 18th Fichkona 2015 on the Fichtelberg. The oldest participant Klaus Strehle from Zwickau, aged 73, is looking forward to his 14th participation in the non-stop long-distance race. For the first edition in 1998, seven racing cyclists met at five o'clock in the morning on the Fichtelberg. They reached Cape Arkona 17 minutes before the 24-hour deadline. This year, 370 people have applied for the 190 starting places that have been allocated for this year's cycling marathon. As last year, the 190 starters will be divided into four groups. Will the leading group manage to set a new record?

Visitors are welcome to attend the start of the 18th Fichkona 2015 at ten o'clock on the Fichtelberg. On the first section to Thum, the route deviates from the usual route of recent years. The first riders are expected to arrive in Chemnitz at around 12 noon. The first refreshment point awaits the cyclists after 100 kilometres near Bedeln. After another 100 kilometres, the riders will refuel for a second time on the border with Saxony-Anhalt, in the Dübener Heide. At the 300th kilometre mark, the racing cyclists leave the German capital on their left. Half time!

70 kilometres before the finish of the Fichkona 2015, the racing cyclists reach the bridge to Rügen. The final section of the route follows. At the northernmost tip of the island, at Cape Arkona, the participants have successfully completed the 615-kilometre route. Group 1 is expected at the finish at 7 a.m., group 4 at around 12 noon at the latest. Visitors can celebrate with the riders in Juliusruh after crossing the finish line!
