The collapse of the Carola Bridge is putting pressure not only on traffic planners, but also on the organisers. It is still unclear whether the route of the Velorace Dresden in the city centre will have to be changed. What is certain, however, is that it is already possible to register for the event and that the "Jedermann" races will take place as planned.
Registration for the hobby races is possible until the end of November at a reduced starting price. However, you need to be open-minded about the expected distances. The various distances are kept very vague in order to be able to react flexibly to any necessary route changes. "The traditional city circuit will be adapted according to the situation," says the organiser's press release. "The route could be shortened from the usual 20 to around 17 kilometres, but will remain varied and challenging." The organising team is also "considering adjusting the number of laps so that participants can choose between two, four or six laps". The approximate distances will then be 85-102, 60-70 and 35-40 kilometres. The shortest distance is two laps and the starting place is available from 35 euros.
There will once again be special competitions for children and young people up to the age of 14 and people with disabilities in 2025. In addition, the Velorace sports fair will once again take place as part of the bike race.
A final decision on the route is expected to be made at the end of March 2025. According to the Velorace Dresden organisation team, they are in consultation with the city authorities. Dresden. The organiser is the association Internationale Sachsen-Tour des Radrennsports e.V., which will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year.
The collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden on 11 September 2024 was a major event that severely impacted the city's infrastructure. The reconstruction of the bridge is expected to take several years and incur considerable costs. The city of Dresden must develop alternative transport concepts to close the resulting gaps in public transport and private transport. Although the Dresden Velorace did not cross the bridge in the past, it is forcing the city of Dresden to plan traffic flows in the city centre differently.
