A stand-up and cycling event will be held in Chemnitz on 13 and 14 August.

On 13 and 14 August 2010, the anniversary event "50 years of the World Standing Championships in Karl Marx Stadt" will offer exciting track races. On 14 August 1960, the final race of the 1960 World Standing Championships took place on today's cement oval at the Chemnitz Sports Forum.

The focal point of the event on 13 August from 6 p.m. will be the stayer races as part of the "Prize of the City of Chemnitz" and the "Old Masters" race. Participants will include former GDR champion Ralf Keller, 1988 Olympic champions Jan Schur and Uwe Ampler and multiple standing world champion Reiner Podlesch.

The highlights of the 2nd day, on which the competitions start at 4.00 pm, are the "Grand Prix of the Industrieverein Sachsen 1828 e.V." standing races and the 2nd round of the "Old Masters".

Other items on the programme for the two-day event include the "Barmer GEK Junior Cup" as well as elimination and points races in various age groups. Tickets cost between three and six euros.

"The history of stand-up cycling here in Chemnitz on the one hand and the presentation of interesting prospects for children and young people in cycling on the other are the content of our event. Cycling in Chemnitz, with its traditions, its clubs, its fans and of course its top athletes, must get back on the road to success in the long term.... and in all areas." says Bernd Lohse, President of RSV Chemnitz, giving an outlook on the competitions.
