Specialized warns against counterfeit bicycle frames that are currently being offered on the Internet. The company has discovered several cases of counterfeit products being offered and sold on eBay. "For example, we have learned that counterfeit frames have been offered as 2007 S-Works Tarmac frames with a frame height of 52 cm in the colours red and blue. We expressly point out that these counterfeit products have not been tested by us with regard to their safety and therefore may not meet international safety standards," it says on the official Spcialized website.

The counterfeit frames differ from the original in one or more of the following external characteristics:

  • Neither frame nor fork have a serial number
  • The fork serial number is located on the underside of the fork crown
  • Frame or fork have incorrect serial numbers:
  • 1. frame serial numbers under the bottom bracket starting with STT27F
  • 2. fork serial numbers under the fork crown starting with K87H
  • No yellow safety sticker on the bottom left of the seat tube
  • No yellow safety sticker on the inside of the left fork sheath
