Dura-Ace groupset, which was first announced two years ago, is coming onto the market after all.

After the sales launch of the crankset was postponed several times, the project seemed to be dead after the introduction of the new Dura-Ace groupset in summer 2008. Now Shimano has surprised everyone by announcing that the carbon cranks will be launched after all. The Japanese component manufacturer itself sees the cranks, which bear the type designation FC7800-C, primarily as a visual upgrade to the new Dura-Ace groupset.

The technical advantage is rather small, Shimano itself states the weight advantage over the current Dura-Ace aluminium cranks at 22 grams. Even if the type designation is based on the previous generation, the carbon cranks should only be compatible with drive components from the current Dura-Ace
(7900 series).

Shimano importer Paul Lange & Co. OHG has reserved 800 units of the crank for the German market. The price of 799 euros includes the bottom bracket with BSA standard and a certificate of authenticity with the signature of Bernhard Lange, Managing Director of Paul Lange & Co. OHG.
