Tyre manufacturer Schwalbe is now coding all folding downhill and marathon tyres to combat counterfeit products.
The coding system allows each individual tyre to be identified as a Schwalbe original product. The so-called EAN codes are vulcanised directly into the inside of the tyre during production.
The coding system is to be gradually extended to all Schwalbe tyres to protect against counterfeit products. However, it will still take a while before all warehouses have installed the necessary software to record the codes, according to Schwalbe sales manager Bernd Hopp.
