The routes presented are the ninth in nine years of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro - but this time they won't end up in the archive after the race. The new concept of the largest cycling race in North Rhine-Westphalia envisages that two districts will jointly host the event in each of the four years from 2014 to 2017. The route through the districts of Borken and Coesfeld will therefore be ridden again in a similar form in 2016, and in 2015 and 2017 it will go through the districts of Steinfurt and Warendorf.
Participants can expect a "mountainous profile" on the 70, 110 and 140-kilometre routes for the "Cup of Sparkasse Münsterland Ost", the "Cup of Westfälische Provinzial Versicherung" and the "Cup of LBS", according to Dr Kai Zwicker, District Administrator of Borken. "Anyone who still thinks that the Münsterland is just flat will be surprised on 3 October."
While the 4,500 or so participants in the Jedermann race set off from Münster, the professional riders will set off on the 205-kilometre route from Billerbeck on 3 October.
The details and route maps for the four laps - three for everyone and one for professionals - are available on the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro.2014 website at www.sparkassen-muensterland-giro.de published on the website. The online registration for the races can also be found there. Starting places are currently still available for all three routes.
