The special thing about this race: A traffic light determines the course of the race and increases the thrill for the drivers. The circuit covers 600 metres of the closed Mainkai and is connected by two tight bends to form a 1.2-kilometre course. The start and finish are located directly in front of the Iron Footbridge, a well-known Frankfurt landmark. From here, spectators can experience the racing action up close.
The eponymous traffic light system is at the centre of the race. On each lap, participants must try to cross the finish line before the traffic lights turn red. If you miss the red light, you have to stop and risk dropping out of the race. The green phase shortens with each lap, increasing the pressure on the drivers. According to the organisers, it's not just pure muscle power that determines success, but also the right timing.
A special top prize awaits the first-place winners in both categories: a three-day trip to the professionalRed Bull cycling team - BORA - hansgrohe in France. From 19 to 21 July 2025, the winner will have the opportunity to experience the World Tour pros up close on a Grand Tour. Second place will be rewarded with a Cube Bikes voucher worth 500 euros, while third place will receive an ABUS voucher worth 100 euros.
The Red Bull Traffic Lights race is intended to be more than just a sporting competition. With its mix of historic architecture and modern skyline, the Mainkai provides a great backdrop for the event. The organisers promise a bike festival in the heart of Frankfurt that combines big city flair with cycling. After the race, an official after-party is planned at the Frankfurt cycling meeting point Massif Central, where riders, fans and interested parties can celebrate together.
The number of participants is limited to 200 people. Interested cyclists can register for the event via the official website redbull.com/traffic-lights. The organiser recommends early registration, as starting places are limited.
