The training camp season is over, but summer has still not arrived in Germany.
Anyone who is ready for the island again and can (and wants to) get hold of a flight at short notice has the opportunity to cycle around the Balearic island on two different routes in the first-ever cycling event "Mallorca M312 and M167": the 312-kilometre route takes you all the way around Mallorca, making the most of all the island's possibilities and profiles. In the end, there are 4,300 metres of ascent and it takes 14 hours to complete this mammoth tour. Playa de Muro, Alcúdia, Serra de Tramuntana, Andratx, the Paseo Marítimo of Palma, Portocristo, Artà etc. will be some of the points that participants will pass.
If you don't want to go quite so far, choose the M167 ("Decathlon Son Moix 167") with the same start and finish and about half the number of kilometres as well as 2,500 metres of elevation gain on the island's most challenging climbs, especially in the Tramuntana mountains.
Both marathons are organised by the Artanenc cycling club.
Update: The second edition of the cycle marathon will take place on 30 April 2011.
