Under the motto "Bring the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2020 home", the Ötztaler organisers had called for a charity event. Amateur athletes from all over the world rode the original distance of 238 kilometres in their home country on the original race weekend. And there were even Ötztaler fans on site: despite the rain, numerous cyclists tackled the original route with 5,500 metres of elevation gain and four passes.
A total of 1,875 participants from 34 nations lined up at the start, of which only 1,036 completed the entire Ötztaler distance. A total of more than 201,000 kilometres were ridden. The locations of these Ötztaler laps were spread all over the world. Result of the campaign: Dominic Kuen, head of organisation of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, was able to hand over 16,500 euros to the association Netzwerk Tirol hilft, which supports local families.
There is also news from Sölden: As part of an "Ötztaler" evening at the event centre, former OC boss Ernst Lorenzi presented his new book "A new dream begins". The 248-page work contains impressions of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, extensive statistics and experience reports. The new film documentary on the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, which was shown for the first time at the gala evening, is just as visually stunning. Servus TV will be showing the Ötztaler stories on Monday 14th September at 9.15 pm.
