The announced attack on the course record at the 11th Fichkona was successful. The previous best time was beaten by five minutes.
A group of amateur riders managed to beat the previous best time of 19:30 hours by five minutes. The leading group of 21 riders reached Cape Arkona at 5.25 am. The weather was not always ideal, at times the participants had to battle against rain and wind. The 180 participants made slow progress to Chemnitz.
The Fichkona Cycle Marathon starts at Fichtelberg in the Ore Mountains and ends at Cape Arkona on the island of Rügen. A total of 601 kilometres are covered non-stop. A television team from MDR accompanied the amateur athletes. The report will be broadcast on MDR on 3 July at 7.50 pm.
