By taking part in the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, Jan Ullrich wants to help three people: his friend Frank Wörndl, a disabled boy - and last but not least himself

Jan Ullrich is looking for a new life. The 1997 Tour de France winner wants to return to the cycling scene, not as a professional, but as an amateur athlete. Five years ago, Ullrich ended his sporting career ingloriously after doping allegations, followed by a retreat into private life and depression. In future, he wants to enjoy life again in amateur races. After an incognito appearance at a race in Italy, his appearance at the Ötztaler is staged in a big way, with a bet from his friend Frank Wörndl that the two of them will crack a time of eight hours, and with a charity campaign for a disabled boy. TOUR accompanied the former cycling star on his first steps into his second life. You can read the report in the October 2011 issue.
