The 13th edition of the La Stelvio Santini Cycling Marathon will take place on 8 June 2025. With three routes and participants from 50 countries, the event celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Stelvio Pass. On 8 June 2025, Bormio will become an international meeting point for cycling enthusiasts from all over the world. The 13th edition of the La Stelvio Santini Cycling Marathon promises to be a special event, as it coincides with the 200th anniversary of the Stelvio Pass. A total of 1728 participants from 50 different countries have registered for the event, including 191 women. The event offers three different routes: the long route with 130 kilometres and 4270 metres of elevation gain, the medium route with 108 kilometres and 3050 metres of elevation gain and the short route with 64 kilometres and 2280 metres of elevation gain. All routes end on the legendary Stelvio Pass at an altitude of 2757 metres.

Three ways to the Stelvio Pass

The majority of participants, 985 cyclists to be precise, have opted for the challenging long distance. 315 riders will tackle the medium distance, while 173 will complete the short distance. In addition to the host country Italy, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland will make up the largest groups of participants. Many cycling enthusiasts are also expected from Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark. A special feature: 242 couples have registered to share the experience together. In addition, 13 participants will be tackling the short distance on e-bikes.

New event village and supporting programme

There is a logistical innovation for the anniversary edition: the official event village will be set up in the new Bormio car park area for the first time. This is where participants can pick up their race numbers and starter packs, which also include the obligatory event jersey. The village will be equipped with sponsors' exhibition stands, technical partner areas and catering zones. The official pre-race briefing will take place on the day before the race, 7 June. Here, participants will receive all the important information about the event and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other cyclists.

Historical significance of the Stelvio Pass

La Stelvio Santini 2025 is more than just a cycling marathon. It offers the opportunity to explore one of the most spectacular Alpine regions in Europe and overcome a unique challenge in the process. This year's event will coincide with the 200th anniversary of the event. Anniversary of the construction and opening of the Stelvio Pass road. This engineering feat made it possible to connect Valtellina, South Tyrol and Switzerland in summer for the first time. The pass, which is one of the highest motorable Alpine passes, has since become an icon of cycling and is regularly part of major cycling races such as the Giro d'Italia.

Stelvio Pass and Mortirolo

The long-distance route takes participants from Bormio via Rogorbello and the infamous Mortirolo Pass back to Bormio before the final climb up the Stelvio Pass. At 130 kilometres in length and 4,270 metres in altitude, this route is a real challenge. The medium distance covers 108 kilometres and 3,050 metres in altitude, while the short distance is also demanding with 64 kilometres and 2,280 metres in altitude. After completing all 48 hairpin bends on the northern ramp, all three routes reach the finish at the top of the Stelvio Pass, which is 2,757 metres above sea level.

In view of the limited number of participants and the international demand, it is advisable to register early.
