Over 400 women have already registered for the women's road bike festival in Gstaad. Participation is only open to women. There are two distances to choose from on 22 June: the Gran Fondo covers 135 kilometres and 2900 metres in altitude and the Medio Fondo covers 89 kilometres with 1800 metres in altitude.

It is possible to participate in the race category with timekeeping on individual sections or a leisurely ride without ambitions. The cycle marathon for women offers the start in groups with different speeds, which start at fixed times. Although everyone rides alone on the route afterwards, the idea is to distribute the participants more evenly on the road. The entry fee is currently CHF 198 (200 euros). Six refreshment points along the route provide new energy.

There are various workshops the day before, but these have to be booked and paid for separately. For example, there is a Riding Skills workshop for CHF 39 or the one-hour lectures Saddle Pain or Period=Superpower for CHF 19.

Cycling marathon for women also in Sweden

The world's first Gran Fondo exclusively for women is an advertising promise - but there are also women-only events for female cyclists in other countries. One of the best known is the Swedish "Tjevättern", which was organised in the run-up to the Swedish Vätternrunde takes place. Under the motto "The social race", women have been competing in Motala on Lake Vättern since 1991. In the first year, 1,700 women took to the course. Tjevättern is not a race, but each participant receives a timing chip and can see her time at the finish line. It is part of the Swedish endurance series "Svensk Klassiker - Tjej". The race starts in Motala and covers a distance of 100 kilometres.

Road bike region Gstaad

Gstaad has been trying to become a road cycling region for several years. The region promises alpine landscapes and varied routes on major mountain passes and narrow side roads. The official website of the tourism association, www.gstaad.ch, offers 19 elaborate road bike tours around Gstaad. In addition to the route description, there is also a GPS track for the tours, which can be downloaded from Outdooractive.
