The Atterbiker cycling club opens registration for Europe's biggest individual time trial on 10 April. As always, the 16th edition of the race will take place on a completely traffic-free route. The start will take place every 15 to 30 seconds from 13:00. Registration is via www.kotl.at. The route leads through the Salzkammergut and combines flat sections with climbs. Technical passages demand riding skills. Whoever sets the fastest time will be crowned King or Queen of the Lake.
Interested parties can register for individual or 4-man team starting places between 10 and 26 April. After the deadline, participation will be decided by lot. The time of registration is irrelevant. The principle of "first come, first serve" applies to the 10-rider team time trial. Starting places drawn by lot can be passed on.
The entry fee for individual riders is 89 euros. In the past, the starting places were always sold out. Teams of 4 pay 320 euros, from August 360 euros. Registration for teams of 10 ends on 31 July and costs 623 euros. The registration fee of 5 euros per participant goes entirely to the Upper Austrian Red Cross, Vöcklabruck branch. The long-standing partner of the event will receive the entire amount as a donation.
The individual rankings crown the King of the Lake powered by Specialized and the Queen of the Lake. In the elite categories, professionals compete in the Elite King of the Lake and Elite Queen of the Lake classes. The U23 classifications for young riders are supported by Raiffeisen.
The 4-man team time trial powered by Autohaus Eder & Volkswagen offers classifications for women's, men's and mixed teams. In the 10-man team time trial powered by Upper Austria, teamwork and tactics are the deciding factors. The racing bike class, time trial class, age groups and licence rider categories round off the programme.
The King of the Lake course runs for 47.2 kilometres around Lake Attersee, with the start and finish traditionally being in Schörfling. The first section on the eastern shore via Weyregg and Steinbach is largely flat and allows the starters to immediately pick up a fast pace on the time trial bike. Only in the southern part of the lake, in the area of Unterach and Weißenbach, does the profile become more undulating and requires a good rhythm after around 25 kilometres in order not to lose too much energy on the short climbs. On the way back along the western shore via Nußdorf and Attersee am Attersee, the more technically demanding sections follow, which are characterised by slight counter-climbs and often decide the finish time. The last section finally leads via Seewalchen back to Schörfling, where the riders cross the finish line. What makes the time trial unique is that the entire main road is completely closed to traffic during the race, creating a professional racing atmosphere right on the lakeshore. You can take part in different classifications - with a time trial bike or racing bike as well as in a team or as an individual starter.
