On 19 July 2025, a new race format celebrates its debut at Bike on the ring Premiere: For the first time, a gravel race will be held on and around the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The organisers are offering routes over 25, 50 and 100 kilometres. Participants have to conquer 560 metres of elevation gain per lap. The route covers both tarmac and gravel sections. According to the organisers, no public roads are used or crossed. The race is designed as an open event and can be contested without a licence.
Gravel race with Nordschleife highlight
The 25-kilometre circuit offers a number of highlights for gravel riders. Starting from the lowest section of the route in Breidschied, the gravel race initially covers the asphalt of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife for around two kilometres. Here, participants can not only pick up speed, but also take advantage of an extra refreshment station. This is followed by a long gravel climb to the Hohe Acht. The reigning German Gravel Champion Paul Voß, who also competes in the Eifel himself, was involved in the planning of the route.

With the reigning German champions Carolin Schiff and Paul Voß, two top riders have already registered for the 100-kilometre race. Paul Voß knows the road course at the Nürburgring from his victory in the 2016 UCI "Rudi Altig Race", while Carolin Schiff won the prestigious "Unbound 200" in the USA in 2023 in addition to her national title. Jasper Ockeloen, who is also one of the favourites for the gravel race, has also announced his arrival from the Netherlands.
Gravel race with prize money
The organisers emphasise the grassroots nature of the event. The gravel race attracts the winners of the 100-kilometre distance with prize money of 1,300 euros each. Nevertheless, the event is intended to appeal to athletes of all abilities. The 25-kilometre race is primarily aimed at beginners, while the 50-kilometre distance is intended for more ambitious amateur riders. The latter can also take part in the 24-hour race afterwards. Registration at the early bird price is possible until 30 April. The 25 km short lap costs 50 euros, the 50 km distance is 65 euros and the 100 km long distance is available for 80 euros.
Pre-event with Paul Voß
Interested parties will have the opportunity to explore the route in advance with Paul Voß on 12 May. During this "sneak peek", the final details of the route will be clarified and photos will be taken. Paul Voß will give an insight into his race strategy for the gravel race. Five places will be raffled off among all applicants who send an e-mail to service@radamring.de.
