The Škoda Velotour is fully booked for the first time and the Tour d'Energie also reports record numbers. A trend seems to be emerging: increased interest in the German Cycling Cup races.

The Škoda Velotour closed its registration portal just two weeks before the race. 8000 amateur cyclists have registered for the 1st of May. This means that the amateur race as part of Eschborn-Frankfurt has reached a new record number of participants. Last year, 6,200 cyclists took part.

Everyman race at Eschborn-Frankfurt: The routes

By far the most starting places were booked for the longest route. 70 per cent of classic bike fans have set their sights on the 103 kilometres of the Škoda Velotour Taunus Classic. From the start in Eschborn, the route leads along the roads of the World Tour race, the Taunus climbs and along the Süwag Team Taunus atmosphere hotspots.

In addition to the long distance, the Škoda Velotour Taunus Express variant with 92 kilometres and the Škoda Velotour Skyline with 40 kilometres are also on offer. The short, flat route is particularly suitable for the cycling classic debut or e-bike riders who want to experience a lap on closed roads without being timed.

German Cycling Cup 2023 starts with record number of participants

Another German Cycling Cup 2023 event is already taking place this weekend The Tour d'Energie in Göttingen has already registered more than 3000 participants. A new record is therefore guaranteed: last year, 2533 cyclists crossed the finish line. "We're expecting just under 4,000 registrations, which means we're almost at our limit," says Johannes Frey. "We're really looking forward to the great atmosphere at the start and in the finish area," adds Jonas Stechmann, both responsible for organising the Tour d'Energie.

Rad am Ring is also experiencing strong demand and a new record number of participants: "2023 will definitely be a record year for us. We are currently close to selling out the 24-hour race and have 5500 participants. This means that we are already 200 participants above our previous record year of 2019. The Everyman races are currently around 20 per cent up on 2019, but there is a certain amount of uncertainty at the moment."
