Hopes for a restart of the cycling events in Germany seem to be dashed. While cycling marathons are already taking place in neighbouring European countries Austria, Italy and Switzerland, there are still cancellations here in Germany. Both Circuit Cycling and Rad am Ring have been cancelled by the organiser eventwerkstatt.
"According to current regulations, Rad am Ring and Circuit Cycling cannot be authorised. The next amendment to the ordinance has been announced for 21 June 2021 at the earliest. This is the brief response from the district authority that we received yesterday. Unfortunately, we have not been given any planning guidance as to the conditions under which the hygiene concept, which has otherwise been approved, can be implemented," reads the press release.
In it, organiser Hanns-Martin Fraas also complains about the lack of planning security and, in view of the easing of restrictions for the European Championships, unequal treatment: "A concrete roadmap as a guide for us organisers, for example, is not too much to ask and has been overdue for more than a year. Yesterday, the Minister Presidents' Council decided that they would once again not make any nationwide decisions, but instead form a working group on major events. A differentiated consideration of events and their risks is only taking place to a very limited extent."
The Lake Constance Cycle Marathon planned for September was also cancelled today: "We have not received the necessary approvals (sic!) from the German side. In Meersburg, for example, all major events are banned until the end of September, and the additional dependence of the bans and relaxations per district on the incidence values in the respective districts makes it impossible to plan."
