On 20 May, the Giro d'Italia makes a guest appearance in Lienz in East Tyrol. Under the motto "Fight for Pink", 1,000 amateur cyclists will be able to race for the pink jersey on the 55 kilometre route just before the professionals on the same day.
The starting shot will be fired on Friday, 20 May 2011 at 10:30 am in Lienz. The route covers 55 kilometres on the original route of the Giro stage over the Iselsberg to Heiligenblut and from there up to the finish, which is located at the Glocknerhaus at over 2,150 metres, just before the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe.
According to the organisers, around half of the starting places have already been allocated. The registration fee is 60 euros including chip timing, pink jersey, catering, certificate and bus shuttle from Heiligenblut to Linz.
