Cycling marathons are the supreme discipline for amateur cyclists. With distances of 200 kilometres or more, it is less about speed and more about endurance, team spirit and the experience of overcoming personal limits. In contrast to competitions, the focus here is on togetherness. The best-known cycle marathon in Germany is the Rhön Cycle Marathon in Bimbach - it is sold out every year. But there are many more routes and dates to discover.
The Große Weserrunde, which began in 2010 as a privately organised long-distance ride and has developed into one of the largest cycling events in the Weserbergland region over the last 15 years, will be taking part for the first time. Most recently, 1,200 participants took on distances of between 80 and 350 kilometres. On the longest route, they even cycle through three federal states: Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. Registration for the 15th Große Weserrunde has already begun and over 500 registrations have already been received.
Anyone who rides five of the 21 cycle marathons will receive the German Cycling Cycle Marathon Cup finisher jersey free of charge. Super finishers are those who complete at least ten of the 21 cycle marathons.
