A 145-metre-long and 55-metre-high Advent calendar hangs from the Mercedes-Benz Center on the Donnersbergerbrücke in Munich. The electricity for the lighting is to be generated by cyclists.
On three Wiawis racing bikes on display in the window of the building, provided by Maloja Pushbikers, the aim is to pedal so hard that enough energy is generated to light up the Advent calendar. Anyone who enjoys sporting activity and wants to do something for a good cause can take part.
Participants in the Advent calendar campaign will receive a Maloja cycling jersey as a gift. The proceeds from each jersey will be donated to the Munich sports social programme HIGH FIVE, which is supported by Laures. The aim of the project is to support children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in their personal development.
The campaign kicked off on 1 December. Among others, Christian Grasmann, former professional track cyclist and founder of Maloja Pushbikers, and ex-racer and former Le Mans winner Manuel Reuter took to the pedals.
"Cycling is a team sport in which you learn to be a team player and to stand up for each other. Achieving success together can be much more fulfilling than going through the world alone," says Grasman about the campaign.
