Former professional cyclists dominated the 2nd edition of the "SuperGiroDolomiti" extreme marathon in East Tyrol: Ex-Gerolsteiner pro Bernhard Kohl won with a lead of over 13 minutes ahead of Daniel Rubisoier and ex-pro Stefan Kirchmair.

In the "SuperGiroDolomiti", which linked the European regions of East Tyrol, Carinthia and Friuli and led over numerous mountain passes, two ex-professional cyclists set the tone right at the start: former Team Gerolsteiner pro Bernhard Kohl and Stefan Kirchmair, two-time winner of the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, quickly pulled away. After around 150 kilometres, Bernhard Kohl from Lower Austria attacked and could not be caught until the finish. Only a few weeks ago, Kohl had won the Granfondo Vienna hobby race. Kohl was banned for doping until 4 July 2014.

Kohl was delighted after his success: "It was the toughest race I've ridden in a very long time. Then there was the weather. The SuperGiroDolomiti is comparable to a very difficult Tour de France stage in terms of the metres in altitude and the route."
