2,300 starting places are available for the long marathon distances in the anniversary year. To mark the 30th anniversary, which will take place on the Whitsun weekend (8/9 June), the number of places has been increased by 300. The number of routes on offer has also been increased by one distance, as the "3" as a symbol for the anniversary plays a special role this year: for the first time and uniquely, a 300 kilometre lap will be offered.
According to the organisers, the routes for both the marathon and the cycle touring routes have been completely revised - with completely new roads and previously largely unknown regions in the programme. For example, the "Black Mountains" to the south of Fulda have been included in the programme, while the Wasserkuppe will be omitted in future. Instead, there will be a detour to the highest mountain of the "neighbour" Vogelsberg - the Hoherodskopf.
"Hazard points have been removed, quieter roads have been chosen and we now generally ride in a clockwise direction, which means we tend to turn right instead of left," says Wolfram Michel, Chairman of RSC Bimbach, describing the route changes.
