Since it was founded in 1999, the Säntis Classic has become a firm fixture in the calendars of many cycling fans. Traditionally, the cycling weekend in Weinfelden begins on Saturday with a range of leisurely cycling tours - from the Family Slow Tour to the Warmup Welcome Tour and the Wine Gourmet Tour. The latter costs CHF 30 (approx. EUR 31) for the wine tasting - the other two tours are free of charge.
The Säntis Classic powered by Spar on Sunday, 15 June 2025, offers three different bike tours for amateur cyclists. Participants can choose between the challenging Classic Tour, the long guided bike athlon and the family-friendly Öpfel Tour. The starting point for all routes is Weinfelden. Refreshment stations and technical service are available on all routes.
The Classic Tour forms the heart of the event and leads over 130 kilometres with 1800 metres of altitude difference through eastern Switzerland. The highlight of the route is the passage over the Schwägalp at 1350 metres above sea level. The tour is divided into five performance groups, which participants can choose according to their fitness level. The start times range from 7.30 a.m. for the fastest group to 9.30 a.m. for the most leisurely group. Three refreshment stations will be set up along the route. The registration fee is 80 Swiss francs without a jersey or 110 Swiss francs including an official classic jersey. The start package includes participation in the tour, route signposting, support vehicles, medical service and a voucher for the pasta party after the finish.
For endurance cyclists, the Säntis Classic offers the Radathlon. This tour leads over 200 kilometres and 2200 metres in altitude through the region. The start is early in the morning, with participants first completing a 70-kilometre loop to Lake Constance before turning onto the route of the Classic Tour. The cyclathlon is divided into three performance groups, which start in groups between 6.30 am and 6.40 am. The average speeds of the groups range from 20 to 33 kilometres per hour. Four refreshment stations are set up along the route. The participation fee is 180 Swiss francs and includes an official classic jersey, guided groups for the first 70 kilometres and breakfast together before the start.
The Öpfel-Tour is aimed at families and leisure cyclists. It leads over 40 kilometres with 350 metres of elevation gain through the region known as "Mostindien". Region. A highlight of the tour is the stop at a farm with a view over Lake Constance. The start is between 10:00 and 12:00 so that participants can start flexibly. The route is mostly on natural roads with little traffic. The registration fee is 50 Swiss francs for adults and 40 Swiss francs for children up to the age of 10. Infants up to the age of 4 can take part free of charge. The starter pack includes a voucher for a brunch on a farm and a starter pack with useful items for the whole family.
The organisers of the Säntis Classic attach great importance to regional ties. The route was chosen so that it leads through scenic areas. When it comes to catering, the organisers rely on regional products, such as apple cider, which gives the Öpfel-Tour its name. Registration for all tours is possible until 10 May 2025, after which a late registration fee will be charged. The number of participants is limited for all routes and ability groups in order to guarantee the quality and safety of the event.
