Under the title Last Man Standing 2012, a cult 24-hour race for singlespeeders and fixie riders will take place in the Austrian capital Vienna on 23 and 24 June

The race has been held three times so far, most recently in 2010, with the race track in the 'Blaue Lagune' prefabricated housing centre being the main reason for the event's quirky reputation. Almost 100 singlespeed and fixie riders spent a day and a whole night racing through the otherwise inaccessible event location in Vösendorf. Without gears, sometimes even without freewheel. But with a big grin on their tired faces. "As the venue was what made the event so special for the participants, we wanted to come up with a location that was at least as unique for the next Last Man Standing," explains initiator Armin Samadian. After a year's break, the 24-year-old Viennese can now offer a similarly curious setting for the new edition of the race on 23 and 24 June: the newly opened BOE car park in Neu Marx.

In the urban surroundings of Vienna's most modern business location for media, research and technology, the participants have to complete a course of just under 1.2 kilometres per lap. "The course covers all four floors of the multi-storey car park and is very challenging due to the metres in altitude and numerous bends and changes in rhythm," explains Samadian. "Whoever completes the most laps wins."

In the 24-hour class, both individual starters and teams of two compete against each other. For individual starters, there is also a 12-hour competition starting at 00:30. As a counterpoint to the sporting challenge, spectators and participants can look forward to two barbecues on Saturday afternoon and Sunday lunchtime.
