The Global Bike Initiative (GBI) has organised an all-women's Transalp together with bike manufacturer Liv. Now there is a film about it: Beyond Results.

The title Beyond Results says a lot. It's about more than just results. A total of 30 women have registered for the Transalp to ride from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Lake Garda. The film not only shows the tour and the general challenges of a Transalp. It also focuses on the challenges that women in cycling face time and again.

I know that many women, especially if they haven't been cycling that long, don't have the confidence to do a Transalp - Aline Köhler

Transalp challenge

Encouraging women to take on challenges and to believe that they can overcome them was one of the main reasons for organising this Transalp. And so it was also organised under the motto: More Women on Bikes. The Transalp group consisted of women aged between 20 and 57 with very different experiences. But they all had one thing in common: they bravely took on the challenge. For many, it was even the first time they had ridden a racing bike over the Alps. The first glimpse of the Alps gave rise to one or two doubts: "Am I up to it?". But the women didn't let it get them down and arrived in Riva del Garda on Lake Garda four days later. The mutual support was not insignificant. With each other, not against each other.

How do you drive over the Alps with 30 people?

The 30 participants were divided into three different groups. One group rode at a more leisurely pace, another at a faster pace and the third added a few extra metres of elevation gain to their route. Of course, there were also suitable names for the teams. The film reveals what they were. There was a suitable group for each of the women.

Challenges for women in cycling are not only demanding tours, they also have to face inappropriate comments time and again. Some of the Red Flags for mountain biking can also be applied 1:1 to other areas of cycling - give unsolicited tips, for example.

The inspiring film about the tour is available on YouTube. It is entertaining and also reveals a lot about hurdles, role models and tackling challenges together.

Donations were collected for Bikeygees e.V., an organisation that teaches refugee women how to cycle. For more women on bikes - that was the motto throughout. A good 5000 euros were raised.
