Jutland refers to the western part of Denmark, stretching from the German-Danish border to the Limfjord - in other words, the entire Danish mainland. Our tour location Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city with a population of 300,000, is located on the country's Baltic coast halfway up Jutland in the Central Jutland region. The university city has the youngest population in the country and was UNESCO Capital of Culture in 2017. Note on navigation and online search: Both the spelling with the Scandinavian "Å" (pronounced as an open "O") and "Aarhus" with two "A"s are common.
In the densely populated region around Aarhus, even the smallest side roads are mostly tarmac.
tarmac. There are cycle paths along larger roads in the city centre. The tarmac on these cycle paths is usually good. The terrain is always undulating, but never steep. Only short sections reach the ten per cent mark. Neither tyres nor gearing need to be specially adjusted. However, the extensive network of paths requires plenty of turn-by-turn directions, which is why navigation via GPS track is recommended.
