Garmin is expanding its product portfolio in the bicycle sector with a multifunctional front light with integrated dashcam. The new Varia Vue combines a powerful front light with a 4K camera to increase the safety and visibility of cyclists on the road. With a maximum light intensity of 600 lumens and side lighting, the device ensures good visibility and visibility in low light conditions. The integrated camera records videos in 4K resolution and saves them automatically when an incident is detected.
The Varia Vue has a smart auto-brightness function that adapts to the current light conditions and the cyclist's speed when paired with a compatible Edge bike computer. Five different light modes are available: Continuous light mode low, medium and high as well as day or night flashing mode. The light cone is designed to minimise the light intensity upwards so as not to dazzle other road users. The integrated camera uses electronic image stabilisation to ensure low-shake recordings even on uneven roads. Video recordings are automatically saved when an incident is detected - before, during and after the incident. This could provide valuable evidence in the event of an accident or critical situation. In addition, the Varia Vue has an integrated microphone that records clear audio during every journey.
Garmin offers various options for easy operation and customisation of the settings. Users can change the light and camera settings at any time using a compatible Edge bike computer or the Varia app. The Varia app also makes it possible to view and edit video clips. If the device is connected via Wi-Fi, the saved video footage can be automatically uploaded to Garmin Vault, provided there is an active subscription. For cyclists who want comprehensive video recording, Garmin offers the option of connecting the Varia Vue to the optional Rear light Varia RCT715 can be combined. This device has an integrated rear light and a dashcam, enabling video recording of an entire overtaking manoeuvre.
The Varia Vue has a battery life of up to 7 hours in low continuous light mode, which includes simultaneous video recording. In addition to the device itself, the scope of delivery also includes an Edge Aero mount and a suitable adapter, which enables flexible mounting on the bike. Garmin has released the Varia Vue for sale with immediate effect. The recommended retail price is €549.99, which places the device in the upper price segment for bike lights and camera systems.
With the Varia Vue, Garmin is addressing the growing demand for safety and documentation solutions in cycling. The combination of a powerful front light and high-resolution camera in one device could be an attractive option for many cyclists, especially those who are frequently on the road and value additional safety and the possibility of preserving evidence.
