Thanks to state-of-the-art diode technology, the rather large device provides so much light that even night-time forest rides are no problem. The IQ2 Luxos U clearly outperforms other top headlights such as the E3 from Supernova or the Lumotec IQ Cyo plus from our own company, especially when it comes to close-range illumination.
Commuters and long-distance riders will also be interested in two functions that the IQ2 Luxos U currently offers exclusively: the ability to switch the light on and off and adjust the light intensity from the handlebars using a remote control, and the ability to charge the batteries of navigation devices and smartphones using the integrated buffer battery via a USB port. Charging current flows from 15 km/h, with the lights switched on only at more than 20 km/h.
Our test headlight, powered by a SON hub dynamo, was put to the test on the 1,400-kilometre London-Edinburgh-London brevet, having already completed two night rides beforehand. Although the lens can mist up from the inside when it rains, the moisture can evaporate again thanks to a small ventilation opening. The area behind the reflector with the sensitive electronics remained sealed. Compared to our test device, B & M has now slightly modified the Luxos. The remote control with the USB connection is now no longer connected to the lamp housing via a plug, but is fixed instead.
