The new Wahoo bike computer had to prove itself on various commuter routes around Munich and during marathons. First impression: The new, now raised and larger buttons are much easier to operate than its predecessor, even when wearing long-fingered gloves. The internal memory, which has been increased to 32 gigabytes, is ideal for users who don't want to spend time maintaining data. The new dual-band chipset makes navigation even more precise than before, especially in the city or in the mountains, where signal shadows can cause deviations.
The black and white display with colour partial display is more brilliant than that of its predecessor and easier to read. However, the display of a planned route on the GPS navigation system has not improved, as it does not stand out clearly from the rest of the route network in terms of colour and is therefore almost hidden. The battery life in practice is just under 15 hours. This means sufficient power reserve even for extended day trips, although this is quickly reduced the more sensors such as heart rate monitor or power meter are connected.
More precise positioning thanks to multi-band GPS, significantly increased memory capacity, more battery power, ergonomically better push buttons: Wahoo's latest upgrade offers a little more incentive to upgrade or buy a new bike than Garmin's upgrade from the 1030 Plus to the 1040. The Elemnt companion app and the integration of Strava or Komoot work very well. Wahoo fans will still have to wait for a larger display with improved map visualisation of route previews and trail conditions.
