For one season, the device was mainly used to collect and analyse training information in conjunction with a Quarq power meter. Pairing the power meter is quick and easy - and the touchscreen operation is largely intuitive. The freely configurable display with several display levels is very well structured and is optimally positioned in the field of vision on a bracket in front of the handlebars (accessory). The convenient operation was counteracted by occasional dropouts: Data fields changed even when active, GPS detection sometimes took 15 minutes instead of 15 seconds (without changing location), and data loss also occurred. These unpredictable dropouts, which do not occur with power meter computers, show that fewer features might be better for flawless function.
If you don't need absolute reliability but appreciate a lot of functions, the Edge 800 is a good choice. The successor 810 costs 100 euros more.
PLUS Range of functions; programmable display; expandable memory
MINUS Software dropouts; contrast display; battery life
